EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT RESOLUTION ON AN AVIATION STRATEGY FOR EUROPE

1. Welcomes the Commission’s communication on an Aviation Strategy for Europe and its effort to identify sources for boosting the sector by finding new market opportunities and dismantling barriers, and for its proposals to meet and anticipate new challenges on the basis of a common European vision, by developing modern regulatory frameworks; believes that, in a longer-term perspective, a further holistic and more ambitious approach should be embraced in order to provide the necessary boost for a sustainable and competitive European aviation industry;

EUROPEAN AVIATION SECTOR KEY ISSUES

1. Safety: The role of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in the field of safety. Co-ordination undertaken ahead of ICAO and other major international conferences, symposia, etc., to enable the European States to present co-ordinated and effective contributions and influence global safety outcomes (European Commission, EUROCONTROL and EASA. The second area of safety engagement is on the investigation of aviation accidents and serious incidents, a fundamentally important element to enhance aviation safety and prevent the repetition of such occurrences.

WHAT A MACRON PRESIDENCY WOULD MEAN FOR FRANCE?

On the surface, a Macron presidency would seem to offer something for everyone: a pro-globalization, pro-immigration, pro-European, pro-reform candidate who appeals to both the left and right, who is both populist and a member of the educated elite. He is a darling of the mainstream media and the hope of many voters from both the Socialist camp and the center-right.

But the Cult of Macron would face a rude awakening if their leader gets all the way to Elysee Palace, which would be his first gig as an elected leader.  

SUPPORT FOR THE LIFTING OF RUSSIAN SANCTIONS

The European Union is divided over the future of its own sanctions regime against Russia. The EU program will come under increased scrutiny as its July 31 expiration date draws near and Member States debate whether to revise their policy toward Moscow.

RUSSIAN LOBBYING AGAINST US SANCTIONS

Democrat super-lobbyist Tony Podesta in Washington DC was paid $170,000 over a six-month period last year to represent Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, seeking to end one of the Obama administration’s economic sanctions against that country.

The lobbying campaign targeted Congress and the executive branch, with Podesta and other lobbyists arranging at least two meetings between Sberbank officers and Department of State officials, according to Elena Teplitskaya, Sberbank’s board chairman.
